The handiwork of UCOL’s Certificate in Automotive (Panel and Paint) students was obliterated recently and they couldn’t be more excited.
The students had carefully prepared and painted a Toyota Corolla to compete in a demolition derby at the Easter Speedway meeting in Palmerston North.
The Corolla was reclaimed from a wrecker’s yard and was used as a teaching tool for the Panel and Paint students. Boldly painted in UCOL orange and blue, the car panel signage also promoted enrolment for the programme.
The car was driven by Certificate in Automotive student Sam Osgood. Sam won the draw to drive from among those students who worked on the project and said competing in the derby was “awesome”.
Sam didn’t figure in the final race placings but says, “I would love to do it again.”
The Certificate in Automotive (Panel and Paint) is a one year, fulltime programme that starts in Semester One and Semester Two.
