Whanganui UCOL celebrates graduates

Hard work and commitment has paid off for 275 Whanganui UCOL graduates who earned degrees, certificates and diplomas last year.

Many of the graduates will attend this Thursday’s annual Graduation Ceremony in Whanganui, to receive their new qualifications.

Underground Youth Fashion wins for UCOL students

UCOL Fashion students are celebrating success at this year’s Underground Youth Fashion Show, held in Whanganui at the weekend.

Three Bachelor of Fashion students and graduate Sara Bailey took a total of eight awards in the annual competition which is open to young designers throughout New Zealand.

2011 Bachelor of Fashion graduate Sara Bailey won the NZ Youth Streetwear category and also took first, second and third place in the High Fashion category, making her Supreme Winner of the competition.

Third year Bachelor of Fashion student Stephanie Foster was placed first in the Evening Trendz section and was also awarded a UCOL scholarship. Year One students Zoe Amos took second place in the Youth Streetwear category and first year student Maylene Greenaway took third place in Youth Streetwear and Evening category. UCOL Future Forward Arts & Design Symposium

Five leaders in the creative arts will be guest speakers at UCOL’s Future Forward Arts and Design Symposium in Whanganui this week.

The symposium is the second to be held as part of UCOL’s Prospective project which aims to scope the future of art and design training.

The speakers at Friday’s symposium are:

UCOL brings Music programme to Whanganui

UCOL is bringing its successful Contemporary Music programme to Whanganui.

For budding musicians, the new Certificate in Contemporary Music Performance at Whanganui UCOL could be their pathway to getting ‘a real job’ in the industry. It also creates a rare opportunity for professional musicians in the region: UCOL is inviting applications from people equipped to contribute to the programme.

Musician and Programme Leader Kane Parsons says the 34 week programme is designed to prepare graduates to enter the music industry or go on to further studies in specialised areas such as audio engineering or band management. Read More: “UCOL brings Music programme to Whanganui”…

Whanganui UCOL welcomes new and returning students with its SUMMER FAIR ORIENTATION 2012 next week.

Local businesses, sport clubs and community groups from around the Whanganui region gather on the Rutland Street campus from 11.00am on Tuesday 28 February for the annual Market Day.

There’s a BBQ lunch sponsored by AS@U and ‘good old summer fun’ games including sack races, egg and spoon races and more.

The opportunity to study glass in Wanganui has become even more attractive with Mayoral Accommodation Scholarships offering free accommodation for five 2012 first year Diploma in Glass Design and Production students at the Wanganui Glass School.
 
Mayor Annette Main, with the assistance of UCOL, is offering Mayoral Accommodation Scholarships for 2012 to encourage people to study glass art, design and production in Wanganui. All new first year glass diploma students are eligible for one of five individual rooms situated in one of UCOL’s student flats in Wicksteed Street. The accommodation is self-contained, with individual private bedrooms and shared lounge/dining/kitchen facilities and bathroom amenities. The flat also includes a laundry. They are close to the Wanganui Glass School at UCOL’s Quay School of the Arts campus and only a short walk to the main retail area of town.   Read More: “Accommodation Scholarships for Glass Students”…
